Although the instruments, terminologies, the manner of creating music may differ from the western classical music, the foundation of both is still mostly similar. And there have been a lot of classical music stalwarts from India – and today we’ll be getting to know some of the most famous, prominent ones’ who lit up the pathway for the future of classical music in India:

Ravi Shankar has been honored with the Bharat Ratna and the honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Not to forget the three illustrious Grammys, which illuminated his career.

M.S. Subbulakshmi

M.S Subbulakshmi:

The name of this mind-blowing classical singer is known not only in India but everywhere across the world. Subbulakshmi received her classical music training since a very young age, and her dedication and passion towards it is what enabled her to give her first stage performance at the age of 13. The kind of music she came up was just enthralling. She was also the first Indian musician to have received the Padma Shri – the highest civilian award in India.

He is the youngest musician to have received the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri – both awards of high honors in India. Since decades, Zakir Hussein has been spelling magic with the music he creates with his loved instrument – the tabla.
